Course content
Division of radiological methods. Revision of physical nature. Protection against ionizing radiation. Contrasting agents used in diagnosis, side effects. Guidelines for nursing care in these situations. Skiagraphy, skiascopy (examination technique, preparation of the patient for the examination, care for the patient after the examination). Reporting and billing of health care. Guidelines for documentation, archiving. Advanced skiaskopic and skiagraphic methods applying contrasting agents parenterally. Ultrasound diagnosis. CT examination, MR examination, preparation of the patient for the examination, care for the patient after the examination, basic contraindication. Mammographic examination. Radiological aspects of the patient's psychology care for children, elderly patients and disabled patients. Role of nursing care in prevention and coping with the reaction after iatrogenic "diagnostic shock". Psychosocial consequences of inappropriate behaviour. General oncology: carcinogenesis, characteristics of cancer growth, cancer nomenclature. Overview of risk factors for carcinogenesis, principles of primary prevention and early detection of cancer (secondary prevention). Statistical methods in oncology, evaluation of therapy results. Basic therapy methods (surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, biotherapy - biological response modifiers, bone marrow transplantation). Complication of cancer therapy - risk factors, methods of nursing care for patients with mobility disorders, neuropathy, skin integrity disorder, myelosuppression, organ malfunctions (nephrotoxicity, hepatotoxicity, cardiotoxicity, pulmonary fibrosis). Deterioration of life quality in cancer patients, summary of causes and risk factors of disorders, their diagnosis - assessment scales. Prevention and coping with deterioration of life quality in cancer patients. Spa and rehabilitation care. Sources of ionizing radiation in radiotherapy. Protection against effects of ionizing radiation. Safety in working with cytostatic pharmaceuticals. Introduction of skiagraphic and skiaskopic techniques and care for patients before, during, and after examination. Pitfalls of care for patients in above mentioned methods. Ultrasound diagnosis, practical training "on students' own bodies ". Instructions for patients before ultrasound examination. Preparing patients, care for patients during the examination, assisting during the examination. CT diagnosis, visiting a CT workplace. Instructions for patients before CT examination. Preparing patients, care for patients during the examination, assisting during the examination.MR examination, visiting a CT workplace, filling in questionnaires on medical history before the examination, instructions for the patient before the examination, assisting in preparation of the patient. Summary discussion of a role of a nurse in radiological examination, revision before the exam. Oncological documentation, working with a computer in a clinical oncological workplace. Classification of adverse reactions, treatment, assessment of quality of life. The most common types of tumours, diagnosis, staging, clinical symptoms. Specifics of nursing care depending on diagnosis. Coping with psychic, social, economic, and spiritual difficulties of cancer patients. Anatomic and functional impact of cancer treatment, methods of therapy and nursing care. Guidelines for chronic pain treatment. Guidelines for rehabilitation of cancer patient. Developing nursing plans according to the character of the disorder. Developing a nursing plan for a cancer patient regarding etiology and prognosis. Learning outcomes
The aim of the subject is to provide students with the most important information in the field of clinical oncology and roentgenology. Further, the subject informs about cancer epidemiology in the Czech Republic and specifics cancer diseases in individual clinical disciplines.
Students are acquainted with diagnosis, treatment, and guidelines for nursing care in cancer patients. Students are able to plan, implement, and assess nursing process regarding the specifics of cancer. Students also know the principles of skiagraphy, skiascopy, CT examination, ultrasound, mammography, are aware of pitfalls and complications of individual examinations. Students are capable of preparing a patient for these examinations.
