Course content
Schedule of lectures: 1st week: Introduction. The importance of water for human use, the need to protect water resources. 2nd week: legislative measures in the field of water protection. 3rd Week: Types of plants and their characteristics. 4th Week: Drinking water, its biological and microbiological examinations, hygiene and drinking water quality. 5th week: Technological processes of drinking water. 6th week: Wastewater (sewage and industrial). 7th week: Methods of wastewater treatment (chemical, physico-chemical, biological methods). 8th week: WWTP and sludge management. 9th week: Service water, groundwater, surface water. 10th week: Detection of water quality, collection and treatment of water samples. 11th week: Water Pollution (categorization, causes, major pollutants, methods of determination). 12th week: Water accident. 13th week: Excursion. 14th week: Excursion.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the problems of water protection. Necessary information is provided in terms of legislation, classification of water types, hygiene, microbiology, hydrochemistry, drinking water treatment technology, wastewater treatment technologies, international cooperation in the field of water protection. Water protection is one of the most important challenges in the field of environment protection and also the most challenging area in terms of accession of the Czech Republic into the European Union. The aim is, in line with the requirements of European Union legislation, the improvement of watercourses, aquatic ecosystems and the promotion of sustainable water use.
Students will have knowledge about the issue of water protection.
